We have all heard the phrase “laughter is the best medicine.” Well, I’m here to tell you this rings true in my life. I think back to all of the tragedies in my life and people have asked, “How do you keep a smile on your face?” I really try to focus on being in the moment. Having a sense of humor and laughing with friends can pull me out of any funk. A good laugh can actually improve your health—it’s true! Research has shown that the health benefits of laughter are far-reaching. I could tell you about all the articles and studies I’ve read that have shown that laughter decreases stress hormones, helps relieve pain, brings greater happiness, and even increases immune cells. Instead, I’ll just encourage you to spend some time laughing with family and friends and remember how that makes you feel. I feel almost enlightened after laughing with my girlfriends and that’s all due to my body’s natural, feel-good endorphins, which help promote that overall sense of wellbeing.
