4 Ways to Get Active Outdoors

4 Ways to Get Active Outdoors

Did you know there's a natural and free way to improve your immune system, lower stress, sleep better, boost your mood, and it's right outside your door? Spending time outside is linked to better health and it takes as little as 10 minutes to reap the benefits. Read on for 4 simple and fun ways to add more outdoor time to your routine.

Start a Family Walking Routine

Spending time outdoors can be a great way to reconnect with your family. You can take your dog for a walk, chat about your day with your family, and get some movement in after dinner. Find a walking trail or just walk around your neighborhood. You might even find your kids are more relaxed and willing to share about their day when they're able to get out of the house.

Create Your Own Outdoor Sanctuary

Find a spot outdoors that brings you peace. Maybe it’s planting a garden in your backyard or creating a peaceful place to sit on your deck. You can bring music, a book, journal or nothing at all! Put your bare feet in the grass, smell the fresh flowers, and enjoy the warm sun on your face. Simply spend time soaking up the natural peace nature has to offer.

Re-imagine Your Family Trips

Take your vacation outdoors by planning a trip in your own backyard.  You can have a small fire, set up a tent and have s'mores.   You'll create family traditions and memories your family will appreciate for years to come.

Explore New Places

Exploring new places is a great way to refresh your perspective and spark creativity. You might discover a new hobby or a fun new way to spend time with your family. Check out local bike paths, forest trails, and other areas you have never been to before. Remember to check to see if the location is open before venturing out, as some places are closing down amid the coronavirus outbreak.  Practice social distancing and keep at least 6 feet away from other visitors.

No matter how you prefer to spend time outdoors, the benefits are endless. So what are you waiting for? Get out and explore!
